Hi, I like the art in the game and the story idea is quite funny! Yet I find that the game is not very good at explaining your goal or how to achieve it. Is the player against the foxes? Is the player supposed to destroy as much as the city as possible? If so why? For a high-score? Also, how? The controls do not seem to be explained inside the game.

Finally, I would include a crosshairs.

Thanks for the feedback, those are things I want to address in a future update. Except for the controls, those are already taught in the intro.

This is a review of the downloadable version of the game available in itch.io

Starting the game was very difficult. The instructions say that you can jump with Space (A) and that you move with A/D, yet in the start menu, other buttons are also available like W and S. I tried several keys for starting the game: enter, q, e, z among others, which are the usual keys associated with the WASD movement scheme. Non of the keys worked. I finally tried to use the jump button (Space) and it did work. The game should communicate its instructions in a simple and understandable way.

Regarding the game itself, I welcomed the charge bar when preparing a jump. You do have to get used to this jumping mechanic. I think that a first room that better instructs the player on how to jump would be better. For example, the first room could include three parts: a first part that lets the player walk back and forth until he reaches a small tower or some other protrusion that he must overcome by charging the jump, followed by a well located chasm that the player must avoid by jumping over it with a well timed jump.

The visuals and music of the game are fine and I do not have anything special to comment on them. The white outline of the character feels a little out of place, but because all the coins have also have it I think it is fine.

Thank you so much for taking your time to write a review!

I totally agree with you that the beginning could use an iteration to improve how the game is introduced to the player.

The game may be too simple and doesn't add anything new to the Newgrounds' community. You could put the game on par with other games of the genre by adding mouse support. Also try improving the collision animations.

This is an awesome game definitely worth your time. I even like that you gave me a roll and sword indicator to help time my controls, great!

If there is one thing I would add is that you should add a "hurt" sound to the enemies. When they get hit by the sword you only get the flinch sound but the hurt noise is very rewarding.

I enjoyed this game a lot, but maybe you could add a per room checkpoint, you know, for the modern gamer?

Butzbo responds:

Thanks! Yeah I'm all in for adding more feedback to the experience, so it should improve to add sounds as reactions.
For the room checkpoints, I do like the challenge of preserving your health while going through multiple rooms, but maybe these could be more frequent, there could be a middle ground ;)

The game doesn't seem to reward not shooting, I would suggest that you switch the attack button to be always on, and when pressing the button you stop shooting. Balancing needs some work, the damage that you deal the enemies is too little, so the game takes a very long time and you get bored quicker.

Try adding music and better quality images.

Ok! thx for the review

I lile this game, it feels professional. Maybe you should add an option for setting the controller scheme, as having x to swing the sword is not too comfortable.

Wolod responds:

I updated the full game with this feature recently. going to update demo soon too.

The player character should move in all eight directions, limiting movement when the enemies characters don't adds an unnecesary level of dificulty to the game. It's not about having good reflexes but about tiptoing the right angle to hit the enemy from. This is a control limitation that hinders the game.

Wolod responds:

You actually can move diagonally. But attack works only in 4 directions indeed. Yeah, I was too lazy to draw additional attack animations.

The momento you hit the A button, you know you are in for a different experience.

A thing that I did not enjoy about this game is the jump animation. It looks blocky when the cat jumps off the floor.

CrounchyBrothers responds:

Yes we are aware of that. we will improve it in a future version.
